Will Searcher guide

Find a Will in the UK

Will Searcher is a voluntary register that may help you find whether someone recorded the location of their Will, their solicitor's details, or documents for their loved ones.

  1. Enter the person's first name, last name, date of birth, and the email address or phone number they used when registering.
  2. Review the search price shown at checkout and complete payment if you want to continue. Each search is charged whether or not a match is found.
  3. Enter your email address and follow the verification link. If the registrant restricted access to selected email addresses, your address must also be on their list.
  4. If a verified match is available to you, review the displayed solicitor details and securely download any documents.

What information do I need?

You need the person's name and date of birth, plus the email address or phone number that matches their registration. Phone numbers can be entered in a recognised local or international format. Make sure the country selector matches the number when you enter a national-format phone number.

What if no Will is found?

Only details voluntarily added and verified in this register can be found here. You may also wish to contact the person's solicitor, executor, close family, bank, or relevant document-storage provider. A Will Searcher result is a pointer to information supplied by a registrant; it is not legal advice or proof that a document is the latest valid Will.

A voluntary Will and solicitor register

People can record solicitor contact details and, if they choose, upload a Will or other useful documents. They can choose whether to show solicitor details, documents, or both, and can restrict searches to a list of email addresses. Search results are released only after email verification.
